Carrying a Firearm Without a License in Dauphin County: What You’re Really Facing

In Dauphin County, carrying a concealed firearm or having one in your vehicle without a valid License to Carry Firearms (LTCF) is a serious offense under 18 Pa.C.S. § 6106. Even if the gun is legally owned, carrying it without the proper license can land you in prison.

What Does the Law Say?
 Under §6106, it’s illegal to:

  • Carry a firearm concealed on your person
  • Have a firearm in your car without an LTCF
There are narrow exceptions—such as going directly to a shooting range or transporting an unloaded gun between your home and a repair shop—but most people don’t qualify.

Penalties for a Violation:

  • Felony of the third degree
  • Up to 7 years in prison
  • Fines up to $15,000

Dauphin County Context:
In Harrisburg and surrounding municipalities, firearm charges often arise from simple traffic stops. Police discover guns during vehicle searches—many of which we’ve successfully challenged in court.

Our Strategy
We examine whether the stop or search was legal, whether the gun was actually concealed or accessible, and whether any valid exemptions apply. In some cases, we find that the gun wasn’t even operable—or that you didn’t know it was there.
