DAUPHIN COUNTY – A Dauphin County man is free after spending 35 years in jail.

James Hugney Sr. was convicted of setting his own home on fire. His son died in that fire.

Recent scientific tests that weren’t around when Hugney was convicted showed some doubt on whether the fire was arson, so after more than three decades behind bars Hugney was released Saturday night.

The deal he made with prosecutors doesn’t exactly overturn the conviction, but he gets to maintain his innocence and is released for time served.

A man was also released in august after being convicted of setting a fatal fire in the Poconos in 1989.
