Eric Garonzik is not a big football fan.
So the Middletown man has been surprised by the amount of interest generated when he listed Carlisle native Lee Woodall’s Super Bowl ring on eBay Tuesday.
The ring, which Is listed for seven-day auction, has brought Garonzik, who is originally from Boiling Springs, more than 100 phone calls since then, he estimates.
“I’ve gotten calls from California, everywhere,” he says.
Everyone wants to know whether the ring, which he says has a 5.5 karat weight in diamonds and Woodall’s name engraved on the side, is authentic.
It is, he says.
The ring was offered by Woodall as collateral for a claim Garonzik filed against the former pro football linebacker in Cumberland County Court.
Garonzik says be worked for Woodall for five months last year without pay while designing three Lee Woodall’s Escape Fitness centers Woodall planned to open in Hampden Township, West Chester and Philadelphia.
After the centers failed to open and he and other contractors allegedly weren’t paid, Garonzik hired Harrisburg lamer Joseph Hitchings in an effort to get the money.
Hitchings did not immediately return The Sentinels call for comment by presstime.
The court claim resulted in a settlement where Garonzik says he got “less than half” of the $100,000 he says be was owed.
“That ring represents a fraction of what I should have been paid,’ he says.
Garonzik says be is self-employed as a fitness center designer and also trains personal trainers.
In November, when the former pro said he would pay Garonzik in three weeks, Hitchings asked for the ring as collateral.
When Woodall didn’t pay the money after three weeks, Garonzlk listed the ring on eBay.
By 8 a.m. today, the high bid for the ring was about $15,000. Garorzlk says he expects the bids to rIse rapidly as the seven-day process continues.
Woodall, who played football and basketball at Carlisle High School, went onto play for the San Francisco 49ers, who won Super Bowl XXIX in January 1995.
