Man Held In Woman's Shooting

A Carlisle man was charged yesterday in the Monday night shooting that wounded a borough woman.
Anthony P. Hodge, 22, of 248 Franklin Street, was arraigned on charges of attempted homicide, aggravated assault, nine counts of recklessly endangering and criminal mischief, Mayor Kirk Wilson said last night.
Hodge was committed to Cumberland County Prison in lieu of $2 million bail.
Hodge is accused of firing nine shots, one of which struck Trakia Houdeshell, 27, in the head as she sat on her front porch in the 200 block of West North Street. The shots were fired from about 150 yards away, police said.
Houdeshell was treated at a hospital and released. Police said they did not believe she was an intended victim.
Wilson said police believe Hodge shot at a car that was driving through the neighborhood in relation to a dispute over a woman.
Police said they found nine spent shell casings in the 100 block of West North Street.
Hodge’s friends and family stood in front of the Carlisle police station last night, insisting police had erred, but Wilson said that after meeting with investigators, “I am confident we have the right man.”
Three shooting incidents have been reported in Carlisle since Monday, all in the northwestern portion of the borough.
Earlier yesterday, police made an arrest in the shooting Tuesday on Fairgrounds Avenue that injured one man, but said they did not believe that shooting was related to Monday night’s.
The most recent incident involved shots fired about 3 p.m. yesterday in an alley near the 100 block of West North Street. No injuries were reported, and police are trying to determine if the incident was related to the Monday night shooting, Wilson said.
Justin McShane, Hodge’s attorney, said his client was the target of the shots fired yesterday afternoon.
“For a period of three weeks, my client has been harassed, threatened and shot at several times, and yet he is the only one in custody,” McShane said.
Wilson said Hodge was not in custody until after the shots were fired yesterday.
McShane said he would neither “deny nor assert” Hodge’s responsibility in either incident.
“But this did not occur in a vacuum. My client is not responsible for everything that happened,” he said.
Wilson said the investigation has been widened to include other gunfire incidents in that part of town since May.
