Carlisle Police have arrested a suspect wanted in the shooting of a woman who was sitting on her porch. Anthony Hodge was charged with attempted homicide after his arrest Wednesday, even though the victim was not the intended target.

Police say Hodge fired at least nine shots from the 100 block of West North Street Monday night. One of the bullets hit 27-year-old Trakia Houdeshell in the back of the head as she was talking with family and friends in the 200 block of West North Street. She has since been released from Penn State Hershey Medical Center and is expected to make a full recovery.

Police now believe one of Hodge’s neighbors was the intended target of the shooting, and that the dispute was over a woman.

Mayor Kirk Wilson said investigators got a break in the case when witnesses finally spoke up. “Immediately following the incident, no one saw anything,” Wilson said. “No one heard anything. No one was talking. But since word spread, people began to do the right thing.”

Hodge’s attorney, Justin McShane, said his client has been victimized. “For well over three weeks, my client has been harassed, threatened, shot at repeatedly,” McShane said, “yet he’s the only one in custody.”

Wilson indicated that may change. “The investigation initially focused on this act of violence,” he said. “However, we are expanding that at least until the beginning of May and taking a look at other similar incidents of violence.”

Hodge was placed in Cumberland County Prison in lieu of $2 million bail.

It was my very first time hiring an attorney and I believe I made an excellent choice by going with Shawn Dorward. He made everything completely clear and very easy to understand what was going on. He gave me great advice and was game for whatever choice I made.
